Monitor settings
Change how often a monitor checks, from where, and who it alerts. Pause or delete it.
Open the settings
Open the monitor in the studio and click Edit (the gear on the monitor's card in your list does the same). Nothing changes until you press Save changes at the bottom.

Monitor basics
What we check, and what you call it.
Notifications
How we reach you when something breaks.
A summary of uptime, response time and incidents for this monitor, every week.
Slack alerts are off.
Discord alerts are off.
Slack and Discord get the same outage and domain alerts as email, within the same daily limit. Official status page updates stay email only.
Domain protection alerts
Alerts about the domain and SSL certificate. We only write about deadlines and serious changes, and never twice about the same thing.
Domain expiration
Reminders 30 and 7 days before the domain registration ends, and if it expires or is no longer registered.
SSL certificate
Reminders 14 and 3 days before your certificate expires, and if it expires or stops being valid.
Domain & DNS changes
A protection lock removed, a new registrar or new nameservers, or DNS that stops working correctly.
Email protection
Your SPF or DMARC records are removed, weakened or broken.
Security risks
Abandoned subdomain records someone else could take over, and new lookalike domains that can receive email.
Checking regions
Multi-region checking prevents false positives.

Address and name
You can change which page of the website is checked, and the name. You cannot move a monitor to a different website: its history, speed tests and domain checks belong to that website. If you type another website, a yellow note explains it and Save changes is blocked until you change it back. Create a new monitor instead.
The address must start with http:// or https://.
How often it checks
Drag the slider or pick a preset. The slowest is every 50 minutes. The fastest depends on the plan:
| Free | Plus | Innovator |
|---|---|---|
| every 3 minutes | every 2 minutes | every minute |
Where it checks from
Plus and Innovator monitors are checked from several places in the world, so one bad network route does not count as an outage. Plus can use 6 locations; Innovator 19. Locked tiles are Innovator locations. At least one location always stays selected.
Free monitors are checked from Ohio, US. When a check fails, Tokyo and Frankfurt check again before it counts. How the answers are combined: How checks work.
Alerts and the weekly report
- Email alerts: one address on Free; Plus and Innovator can add a backup. The mail button next to the backup decides whether it gets every alert (green, “Always on”) or only when the main address bounces. The backup must be a different address. See Email alerts.
- Slack and Discord (Plus, Innovator): see Slack and Discord alerts.
- Domain protection alerts (Plus, Innovator): see Domain and SSL alerts.
- Weekly report: a summary email of this monitor's week. See Weekly report.
Pause a monitor
Use the pause button on the monitor's page. A paused monitor is not checked and sends no alerts. Its page turns grey and says since when there have been no checks. Resume it with the same button.

Delete a monitor
On the Edit page, click Delete monitor and confirm. The monitor and its history are removed for good. That frees its slot for a new monitor.
