Create a monitor
Add a website to watch. You only type the address; everything else is set up for you.
Try it
In the studio: Monitors → New monitor. This practice copy works the same way. Switch the plan at the top to see what changes.
The website address
Type just the address, like yourwebsite.com. The homepage is perfect; any page of the site works too.
- The https:// in front is a button. Click it to switch to http:// for the rare site without https. If you paste an address that starts with http:// or https://, the button follows it.
- A green tick means the address looks right.
- If it does not look like a website address, a red line explains it when you leave the box or press Start monitoring, not while you type.
- An address can be up to 2,048 characters.
The name
The name fills itself in from the address (blog.example.com becomes “Example Blog”). It is how the monitor appears in your list and in emails. You can type your own, up to 40 characters, and Use “…” brings the suggested one back.
What a new monitor starts with
| Free | Plus | Innovator | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Checked every | 5 minutes | 5 minutes | 5 minutes |
| From | Ohio, US | all 6 Plus locations | all 19 locations |
| Alerts to | your account email | your account email | your account email |
| Weekly report | on | on | on |
| Domain & SSL warnings | — | all on | all on |
The first check runs within about a minute. Change any of it later: Monitor settings.
Right after you create it
Creating takes about 10 seconds; the screen ticks off each step. Then the monitor's page opens with a short card, “… is live. Let's tailor it.”, that asks one question at a time:
- 1Alerts: which email gets them (Plus and Innovator can add a second address), or no emails.
- 2How often: the fastest your plan allows, the recommended 5 minutes, a relaxed 15 minutes, or your own number up to 50.
- 3Where from (Plus and Innovator): every location, or the ones you pick.
- 4Weekly report: on or off.
Every question has Skip, and Skip all keeps the recommended settings.
How many monitors you can have
Every plan includes 3 monitors. The pill at the top right shows how many slots are left. When they are all in use, the screen says All 3 monitor slots on your plan are in use and the button reads Limit reached.
