Its story

  1. 2010

    In October 2010 the founder merged several small WordPress SEO plugins into one called WordPress SEO, now Yoast SEO. It became the base of every later Yoast product.[6]

  2. 2012

    In 2012 Yoast started earning money from its WordPress plugins and launched Video SEO. Until then the Yoast SEO plugin had many users but no paying customers.[6]

  3. 2015

    Yoast SEO Academy launched in 2015 with its first online course. It taught site owners to do SEO themselves, and later became free for Premium subscribers.[6][1]

  4. 2021

    Newfold Digital acquired Yoast on 12 August 2021. Yoast said its team, headquarters, brand and the Yoast SEO plugin would stay the same.[5][4]

  5. 2025

    In June 2025 Yoast released an llms.txt feature in the free plugin and launched a Google Docs add-on. Premium includes one add-on seat, so drafts can be checked before they reach WordPress.[7]

  6. 2025

    From July 2025 Yoast replaced ten separate WordPress plans with two subscriptions. Yoast SEO Premium now includes the former Local, News and Video SEO add-on plugins.[7]
