Overview: A performance-conscious, privacy-compliant WordPress marketing stack that pairs lightweight Tailwind/Alpine UI with enterprise SEO, RUM monitoring, and consent management.

What stands out

  • Modern front-end practices (Tailwind, Alpine) coexist with legacy jQuery dependencies, suggesting incremental modernization rather than a full rebuild.
  • Enterprise-grade compliance and performance tooling (OneTrust, Cloudflare Browser Insights) reflects a global B2B audience and subscription-driven marketing.
  • Yoast Premium plus Gutenberg reveals a content-rich SEO strategy focused on attracting researchers and institutional users.

Technologies altmetric.com uses

  • Swiper — Touch-friendly carousel library powers sliders for testimonials, features, or case studies, enhancing marketing content presentation.
  • Yoast SEO Premium — Premium SEO plugin adds internal linking suggestions, redirect management, and content insights, revealing heavy investment in organic search acquisition.
  • Tailwind CSS — Utility-first CSS framework enables rapid, consistent custom styling of marketing pages without large bespoke stylesheets, supporting a lean front end.
  • WordPress — CMS underpins content creation and management for marketing pages.
  • Cloudflare Browser Insights — Cloudflare RUM analytics captures real-user performance metrics to monitor and improve site speed and Core Web Vitals.
  • WordPress Block Editor — Gutenberg block editor enables non-technical marketing staff to build rich, flexible page layouts within WordPress.
  • Alpine.js — Lightweight JavaScript framework adds interactive components like dropdowns and modals while keeping page weight low, aligning with performance focus.
  • Cloudflare — CDN and DNS services accelerate delivery, provide DDoS protection, and improve global reach.
  • Amazon Web Services — Cloud infrastructure hosts WordPress, providing scalable compute and database resources.
  • jQuery — Core JavaScript library required by WordPress themes and many plugins for DOM manipulation and AJAX.
  • Yoast SEO — Core SEO plugin provides sitemaps, meta tags, and readability checks that form the foundation for search visibility.
  • jQuery Migrate — Maintains compatibility for legacy jQuery code in WordPress plugins or theme, reducing breakage after jQuery upgrades.
  • OneTrust — Cookie consent management ensures GDPR/CCPA compliance for a global, enterprise research audience, balancing analytics with privacy.
  • RSS — Provides standardized feeds for content syndication and monitoring.
  • Google Analytics — Measures traffic and user behavior to inform marketing decisions.
  • PHP — Server-side language powers WordPress application logic and rendering.
  • MySQL — Relational database stores WordPress content, user data, and settings.
  • HSTS — Forces HTTPS to ensure secure connections between browsers and the site.
  • Open Graph — Open Graph meta tags control how pages appear when shared on social platforms.
  • Google Tag Manager — Manages deployment of analytics and marketing tags without code changes.

How these technologies work together

  • Yoast SEO requires Yoast SEO Premium — Premium builds on Yoast SEO core features, adding advanced redirects and internal linking suggestions to the base plugin.
  • MySQL requires WordPress — WordPress requires MySQL to store site content, options, and user data.
  • PHP requires WordPress — WordPress is built on PHP and cannot function without PHP executing its application logic.
  • Google Tag Manager integrates with OneTrust — OneTrust blocks GTM until users grant consent, ensuring analytics and marketing tags fire in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • jQuery requires jQuery Migrate — jQuery Migrate extends jQuery to revive deprecated APIs used by older WordPress plugins and theme scripts.
  • Alpine.js integrates with Tailwind CSS — Alpine toggles Tailwind utility classes for dynamic UI without a heavy framework, keeping pages fast and maintainable.
  • Cloudflare runs on Cloudflare Browser Insights — Browser Insights runs through Cloudflare's edge, capturing real-user performance data to optimize a Cloudflare-served site.
  • WordPress integrates with Yoast SEO — Yoast SEO hooks into WordPress to generate sitemaps, metadata, and content analysis for every post and page.
  • Amazon Web Services runs on MySQL — MySQL likely runs on AWS RDS, providing automated backups, replication, and scaling for the WordPress database.
  • WordPress Block Editor integrates with Yoast SEO Premium — Yoast Premium integrates with Gutenberg, showing readability and keyword scores in the content editing sidebar.
  • Google Analytics integrates with Google Tag Manager — GTM deploys Google Analytics based on trigger rules and consent settings, centralizing measurement configuration.
  • Amazon Web Services runs on WordPress — WordPress application likely runs on AWS compute with Cloudflare in front, giving scalable, resilient infrastructure.
  • Open Graph integrates with Yoast SEO — Yoast SEO outputs Open Graph tags, controlling shared previews and improving social media engagement.
  • Cloudflare works alongside HSTS — Cloudflare enforces HSTS response headers so browsers always use HTTPS.
  • Swiper works alongside Tailwind CSS — Swiper sliders use Tailwind utilities for responsive sizing, spacing, and custom navigation styling.
  • RSS integrates with WordPress — WordPress automatically generates RSS feeds for posts, enabling content monitoring and distribution.

How to fix Altmetric not working

Altmetric tracks the online attention that research articles, books and datasets receive, including news, policy documents and social media. Publishers, universities and researchers use its Explorer platform and badges. Find your symptom below. Most problems come from a sign-in, a data source or record that has not updated, an API key, or the platform itself.

Jump to what you are seeing

Website Down

The Altmetric website or Explorer does not load for you.

  1. Open the page in a private window and on another network.
  2. Check status.altmetric.com for an active incident.
  3. If only your network is affected, ask IT to check the firewall.

Data Not Loading

Attention data for a paper or a journal does not show, or it shows as empty.

  1. Check the article's identifier, such as its DOI, is correct and recognised.
  2. Allow time for new mentions to be collected, since data updates on a schedule.
  3. Check the date range and the filter for the report you are looking at.

Login Failed

Sign-in to Explorer is refused. Check you are using the account your institution set up.

  1. If the message says the password is wrong, reset it and check spam.
  2. Check your institution's access is active, since access can end at the end of a contract.
  3. Try a private window to rule out an old session.

API Down

Calls to the Altmetric API fail or time out.

  1. Check the status code. A 401 or 403 means the key or permission is wrong, a 429 means too many calls, and a 5xx means a platform-side problem.
  2. Confirm the API key has not been changed or revoked.
  3. Retry with a growing delay, and check status.altmetric.com if several calls fail together.

Badge Not Showing

The Altmetric badge does not appear on a paper's page.

  1. Check the paper has at least one tracked mention, since a badge only shows when there is attention.
  2. Check the page has the badge script installed, and that it is not blocked by a script blocker.
  3. Check the paper's identifier on the page matches the one in Altmetric.

Search Not Working

A search in Explorer returns no results, or misses a paper you know exists.

  1. Search with the exact title or the DOI.
  2. Check any filter, such as year or subject, is not hiding the paper.
  3. If the paper is still missing, send its DOI and the time to support.

Still not working?

If it still does not work, contact your institution's Altmetric administrator first, since they manage access and subscriptions. For a platform-wide problem, contact Altmetric support through the help option in Explorer or on altmetric.com. Have your institution name, the DOI or paper title, the exact error text, and the time it started with your time zone. Do not send personal details about authors or readers in a support message. Live incident updates are on status.altmetric.com.

Most research-metrics problems come from a missing identifier, a data update that has not run yet or a filter, and they usually clear once that is checked. The status page shows live platform incidents, so you can see whether the problem is on Altmetric's side.
