Expo down?

Expo is an open source framework and platform for building universal React Native apps that run on iOS, Android and the web from a single JavaScript or TypeScript codebase. It provides a rich SDK of native modules, file-based routing with Expo Router, and a fast development workflow with Expo Go. Expo Application Services (EAS) adds cloud builds, app store submission, over-the-air updates, and workflows for CI/CD. Developers and companies use Expo to ship high-quality cross-platform mobile apps faster without managing native build tooling.

Overview: A developer-first content and cloud stack: Sanity-authored docs, Algolia search, Google Cloud edge delivery, and LinkedIn B2B ad tracking for subscription growth.

What stands out

  • Sanity as headless CMS signals Expo treats documentation and developer education as a product surface, not an afterthought.
  • Algolia search indicates a large, structured documentation and API reference corpus for React Native developers.
  • LinkedIn Ads plus Insight Tag reveals a B2B developer acquisition motion focused on professional networking and paid subscriptions.
  • Google Cloud CDN layered with Cloudflare suggests split responsibilities: Cloudflare for DNS/security, Google Cloud for static asset delivery.

Technologies expo.dev uses

  • Sanity.io — Expo uses Sanity.io as its headless CMS for documentation, blog, and developer content at scale.
  • Google Cloud CDN — Serves static docs, images, and download assets with low latency worldwide.
  • Algolia — Powers instant search across Expo documentation, API references, and blog posts.
  • Google Cloud — Hosts and scales Expo's backend services, content delivery, and build infrastructure.
  • Linkedin Insight Tag — Tracks LinkedIn ad conversions for professional developer signups.
  • Sanity — Sanity Studio and client libraries let Expo authors publish and query docs and blog content.
  • Cloudflare — Provides DNS, security, and edge caching for expo.dev.
  • HTTP/3 — Speeds up docs and asset delivery for modern browsers.
  • Linkedin Ads — Targets professional developers on LinkedIn to drive Expo subscription signups.
  • HSTS — Forces HTTPS for secure developer accounts and subscription flows.

How these technologies work together

  • Algolia integrates with Sanity.io — Expo indexes Sanity-managed docs and blog posts into Algolia, powering instant search across developer resources.
  • Sanity requires Sanity.io — Expo's documentation and blog rely on Sanity.io; Sanity Studio and client libraries let authors edit and query that content.
  • Linkedin Ads integrates with Linkedin Insight Tag — Expo targets professional developers on LinkedIn; the Insight Tag measures campaign conversions for subscription signups.
  • Google Cloud runs on Google Cloud CDN — Expo serves static docs, images, and download assets through Google Cloud CDN on Google Cloud infrastructure.
  • Algolia works alongside Google Cloud CDN — Algolia search and Google Cloud CDN together reduce latency for Expo's worldwide developer audience browsing documentation.
  • Google Cloud CDN works alongside HTTP/3 — Expo's Google Cloud CDN delivery uses HTTP/3 to speed up docs and asset loads for developers on modern networks.
  • Cloudflare works alongside Google Cloud CDN — Cloudflare fronts Expo's domain for DNS and security while Google Cloud CDN serves static assets from the edge.

How to fix Expo not working

Expo is a platform for building React Native apps that run on iOS, Android and the web. Developers use its tools for cloud builds, over-the-air updates, app store submissions, hosting and push notifications. Find your symptom below. Most problems come from a build or config setting, a signing credential, a sign-in or token, or the platform itself. Check the status page before you push an update to users.

Jump to what you are seeing

Website

The Expo website does not load for you.

  1. Open the page in a private window and on another network.
  2. Check status.expo.dev for an active incident.
  3. If only your network is affected, ask IT to check the firewall.

Builds

A cloud build fails, or it does not start.

  1. Read the first error in the build log, which usually names the file or setting that failed.
  2. Check the app config and dependencies match the versions in the project.
  3. Check status.expo.dev, then build once more after the fix.

Updates

An over-the-air update does not reach users, or it causes errors.

  1. Check the update was published to the right channel and runtime version.
  2. Check the app build your users have is compatible with the update.
  3. Test the update on one device, and check status.expo.dev before you publish it more widely.

App Submissions

An app submission to a store is rejected, or it does not upload.

  1. Read the rejection message, which usually names the guideline or field to fix.
  2. Check your store account, credentials and signing details are current.
  3. Resubmit only after the fix, and check status.expo.dev if uploads fail for everyone.

Hosting

A hosted site or API route does not load, or it shows an error.

  1. Check the deployment finished, and is the live version.
  2. Reload in a private window, and check the address is the right one.
  3. Check status.expo.dev, then redeploy the last working version if it stays down.

Notifications

Push notifications do not arrive on devices.

  1. Check the device allows notifications for the app, and that push credentials are set up.
  2. Check the device is online, since old push tokens stop working.
  3. Send a test notification to one device, and check status.expo.dev.

End-to-End Testing

End-to-end tests fail, or they stop before they finish.

  1. Read the first failed step in the test log, and the screen it was on.
  2. Check the test device or simulator is set up as the test requires.
  3. Run one test on its own to see whether the failure repeats.

Metadata

App store details, such as names, descriptions or images, do not save or do not show.

  1. Check the field lengths and image sizes match the store's requirements.
  2. Save, reload the page, and check the changes appear before you submit.
  3. Check status.expo.dev, and report the field name and the time if it still does not save.

Still not working?

Contact your team's Expo administrator, or the developer who owns the project, first. For a platform-wide problem, contact Expo support through the help option on the Expo website or in your account. Have your project name, the build or update ID, the exact error text or log line, the platform, and the time with your time zone. Never send access tokens, signing keys or store credentials in a support message. Live incident updates are on status.expo.dev.

Most app-build problems come from a config setting, a signing credential or a version mismatch, and they usually clear once that is corrected. The status page shows live incidents, so you can see whether the problem is on Expo's side.
