How to fix Commvault not working
Metallic, from Commvault, is a cloud backup and recovery service for Microsoft 365, Salesforce, servers and other data. Backup administrators and IT teams use it. Find your symptom below. Before any restore, confirm with your administrator which data and which location will be restored, since a restore can overwrite live data.
Jump to what you are seeing
Website Down
The Metallic website or console does not load for you.
- Open the page in a private window and on another network.
- Check the status page at m3-status.metallic.io for an active incident.
- If only your network is affected, ask IT to check the firewall.
Login Failed
Sign-in is refused. Check you are using the company sign-in, such as single sign-on.
- Use the sign-in route your company set up.
- If the message says the password is wrong, reset it and check spam.
- Ask your administrator to confirm your role allows access to the backups you need.
Backup Failed
A backup does not complete. The job log usually names the cause, such as a source that cannot be reached or a permission that has changed.
- Open the job's log and read the first error.
- Check the source is reachable, and that the connected account still has permission to read the data.
- Check your storage limit or plan allowance has not been reached.
- Run the job once more after the fix, and check its result.
Restore Failed
A restore does not finish, or the restored data is incomplete. The restore target and its permissions are the usual causes.
- Read the restore log for the first error.
- Check the restore target has enough space, and that the account has permission to write there.
- Restore one small test item first to check the process, before restoring a large set.
- If it still fails, send the restore job ID and the time to support.
Console Slow
The console is slow, often during a large backup or restore.
- Try the console again at a quieter time of day.
- Check whether a large job is running, and let it finish.
- If it is slow for everyone, check the status page.
API Error
Calls to the Metallic API fail or return an error.
- Check the status code. A 401 or 403 means the credentials or permission are wrong, a 429 means too many calls, and a 5xx means a platform-side problem.
- Confirm the credentials have not been changed or revoked.
- Retry with a growing delay.
Connection Error
A connection to a cloud account or application stops working, so its data is not backed up.
- Check the connection is still active, and that its credentials or role have not expired.
- Check the cloud account's permissions still allow backup actions.
- Reconnect the account, then run one small backup to test.
Still not working?
If it still does not work, contact your backup administrator first, since they manage connections and policies. For a platform-wide problem, contact Metallic support through the help option in the console or on the Commvault website. Have your organisation name, the job or connection name, the exact error text, and the time it started with your time zone. Never send credentials or backup contents in a support message. Live incident updates are on m3-status.metallic.io.
Most backup problems come from a source that cannot be reached, a permission or a full target, and they usually clear once that is corrected. The status page shows live platform incidents, so you can see whether the problem is on the service's side.
