How to fix Contentstack not working
Contentstack is a headless content platform. Marketers and developers create content there and deliver it to websites, apps and other channels through APIs. Find your symptom below. Most problems come from a sign-in, a publishing or workflow step, an API or webhook setting, or the platform itself.
Jump to what you are seeing
Website Down
The Contentstack website or console does not load for you.
- Open the page in a private window and on another network.
- Check status.contentstack.com for an active incident.
- If only your network is affected, ask IT to check the firewall.
API Down
Calls to the Contentstack API fail or time out, so content does not reach the site.
- Check the status code. A 401 or 403 means the token or permission is wrong, a 429 means too many calls, and a 5xx means a platform-side problem.
- Check the API key and environment match the site's delivery settings.
- Retry with a growing delay, and keep serving the last good content on the site while the API is down.
- Check status.contentstack.com if several calls fail together.
Publishing Failed
An entry will not publish to an environment. The usual reasons are an empty required field, a linked item that is not published, or a workflow waiting for approval.
- Read the publish error. It usually names the field or the linked entry.
- Check every required field has a value, and that linked entries are published first.
- Check the workflow stage, since an entry waiting for approval is not published yet.
Asset Upload Error
An image, video or file does not upload to the asset library.
- Check the file type and size are accepted.
- Retry on a stable connection.
- Try a smaller file to see whether size is the cause.
Webhook Failure
A webhook that sends updates to your site or system is failing.
- Check the endpoint address is still correct and reachable from the internet.
- Check the endpoint answers quickly with a success response.
- Check a firewall or signature check on your side has not changed.
- Make sure your system handles an event that arrives twice, since retries can send the same event again.
Slow Response
The console or the content API responds slowly.
- Try again at a quieter time of day.
- Check whether a large publish or import is running, and let it finish.
- Check the status page if it is slow for everyone.
Automation
An automation, such as an automatic update or a scheduled action, does not run.
- Check the automation is switched on and its trigger condition is met.
- Read its run log for the first error.
- Test the automation on one entry before relying on it again.
CLI
The command-line tool fails or reports an error.
- Update the tool to the latest version.
- Check you are logged in to the right stack and environment.
- Run the command again and copy the full error text, not only the last line.
Still not working?
If it still does not work, contact your Contentstack administrator first, since they manage stacks, environments and access. For a platform-wide problem, contact Contentstack support through the help option in the console or on contentstack.com. Have your stack name, the entry or asset name, the exact error text, and the time it started with your time zone. Never send API keys or access tokens in a support message. Live incident updates are on status.contentstack.com.
Most content-platform problems come from a required field, an unpublished link or a delivery setting, and they usually clear once that is corrected. The status page shows live platform incidents, so you can see whether the problem is on Contentstack's side.
