How to fix Swell not working

Swell is a headless e-commerce platform. Brands and agencies build their own storefronts on top of its APIs, with products, subscriptions, checkout and an admin panel. Developers and store managers use it. Find your symptom below. Most problems come from a sign-in, an API call, a checkout or payment setting, or the platform itself.

Jump to what you are seeing

Website Down

The Swell website or the admin site does not load for you.

  1. Open the page in a private window and on another network.
  2. Check status.swell.store for an active incident.
  3. If only your network is affected, ask IT to check the firewall.

API Error

Calls to the Swell API fail or return an error.

  1. Check the status code. A 401 or 403 means the key or permission is wrong, a 429 means too many calls, and a 5xx means a platform-side problem.
  2. Confirm the key has not been changed or revoked, and that it is for the right store.
  3. Retry with a growing delay, and do not create a second order when you retry.

Dashboard Login

Sign-in to the admin dashboard is refused.

  1. If the message says the password is wrong, reset it and check spam.
  2. Check you are signing in to the store your team manages.
  3. Try a private window to rule out an old session.

Checkout Failed

A shopper cannot complete checkout on the storefront.

  1. Test a checkout in a private window with script blockers off.
  2. Check the shipping and payment options are enabled for the shopper's country.
  3. Check whether a recent storefront change caused it, and test any further change on a copy first.

Payment Issues

A payment is declined, or it does not record on the order.

  1. Check the payment status on the order.
  2. If the bank declined the payment, ask the shopper to check with their bank or try another method.
  3. Do not take the payment again until the first attempt has a final status.

Order Management

An order does not move to the next stage, or it shows the wrong status.

  1. Check the order's status history for the step where it stopped.
  2. Check the payment and the fulfilment status are both complete for that stage.
  3. If many orders stall at once, send the order numbers and the time to support.

Admin Panel

A page in the admin panel does not load, or it shows an error.

  1. Reload in a private window with extensions turned off.
  2. Check your role allows the page you are opening.
  3. If one page fails, note its name and the time.

Still not working?

If it still does not work, contact your store administrator or developer first, since they manage the storefront and its settings. For a platform-wide problem, contact Swell support through the help option in the admin or on swell.store. Have your store name, the order or product reference, the exact error text, and the time it started with your time zone. Never send customer payment details in a support message. Live incident updates are on status.swell.store.

Most headless-store problems come from a checkout setting, an API key or a recent storefront change, and they usually clear once that is corrected. The status page shows live platform incidents, so you can see whether the problem is on Swell's side.
