About Homey & Technical Insights
What this service does and the technologies behind it.
Read the tech stack as text▾
Overview: A lean direct-to-consumer IoT commerce operation running entirely on AWS, using video tutorials and an AI chatbot to absorb the support burden a complex smart home product creates.
What stands out
- Support automation is treated as core infrastructure, not an add-on, for a product whose setup complexity drives heavy pre- and post-sale questions.
- YouTube is doing double duty as marketing and documentation, suggesting the buying journey depends on demonstrating automations rather than listing specs.
- Concentrating DNS, load balancing, TLS and hosting in AWS indicates a small infrastructure footprint with no multi-cloud hedging.
- Sentry plus Chatbase reveals a rare pairing: technical error telemetry and conversational support data both feeding customer experience decisions.
Technologies homey.app uses
- YouTube — Hosts product demos, hub setup tutorials and automation walkthroughs, educating buyers before purchase and reducing post-sale support tickets.
- AWS Certificate Manager — Issues and auto-renews TLS certificates terminating at the ALB, securing checkout and customer account logins.
- Amazon ALB — Load balancer fronts the e-commerce storefront and account portal, keeping smart home app traffic highly available during product launches.
- Chatbase — AI support agent deflects pre-sales and setup questions for a technical IoT product, cutting human support load for a small Dutch team selling complex hubs.
- Amazon Web Services — Baseline cloud host running the storefront, DNS and backend services.
- Sentry — Monitors frontend and app errors across storefront and Homey web dashboards, protecting conversion during high-traffic sales.
How these technologies work together
- Amazon ALB requires AWS Certificate Manager — The ALB serves HTTPS using ACM-issued certificates, so secure checkout and account pages cannot run without this pairing.
- Amazon ALB runs on Amazon Web Services — Elastic Load Balancing runs inside AWS, anchoring the storefront's availability on the same cloud that hosts the backend.
- Amazon Web Services runs on AWS Certificate Manager — ACM only issues certificates for AWS-integrated endpoints, tying the site's HTTPS security directly to the AWS account.
- Chatbase works alongside YouTube — Video tutorials handle complex smart home setup while the AI chatbot answers buying questions, together minimising human support cost.
- Chatbase works alongside Sentry — Sentry surfaces technical failures while Chatbase captures the visitor complaints those failures generate, giving a full support picture.
- Amazon Web Services runs on Chatbase — The support bot is deployed alongside the AWS-hosted commerce stack, letting it answer questions using live product and order context.
- Amazon Web Services integrates with Sentry — Sentry instruments the AWS-hosted storefront and dashboards, catching regressions that would otherwise stall e-commerce conversion.

How to fix Homey not working
Homey is a smart home platform that connects devices from many brands and wireless protocols in one app. You build automations with its Flow editor, monitor energy use and make dashboards. It is sold as hubs such as Homey Pro and as a cloud service. Find your symptom below. Most problems come from a device's connection, a hub or network setting, a sign-in, or the platform itself. Never share your Wi-Fi password or device codes in a support message.

Mobile App Down
The Homey app will not open, sign in, or show your home.
- Update the app from your app store, and restart your phone.
- Check your phone and hub are on the same network, or that your cloud connection is working.
- Sign out and back in.
Website Down
The Homey website does not load for you.
- Open the page in a private window and on another network.
- Check status.homey.app for an active incident.
- If only your network is affected, ask IT to check the firewall.
Device Control Failed
A device does not respond when you control it from the app.
- Check the device has power, and that it is within range of the hub.
- Restart the device once, and check the app shows it online.
- Check status.homey.app, and remove and add the device again if it stays offline.
Cloud Offline
The cloud connection is down, so you cannot control your home remotely.
- Check your home's internet connection, and that the hub has power.
- Restart the hub once, and wait a few minutes for it to reconnect.
- Check status.homey.app. Local control from the hub may still work while the cloud is down.
Login Failed
Sign-in is refused.
- If the message says the password is wrong, reset it and check spam.
- Check you are using the account that owns the hub.
- Try a private window to rule out an old session.
Automation Not Working
A Flow does not run when it should, or it runs the wrong action.
- Check the Flow is switched on, and that its trigger and conditions are correct.
- Check the devices used in the Flow are online.
- Check status.homey.app, and test the Flow once by hand to see the step that fails.
Homey Pro Offline
The Homey Pro hub shows as offline in the app.
- Check the hub has power, and that its network cable or Wi-Fi connection is working.
- Check your router has not changed the hub's address, and that the hub is reachable on your network.
- Check status.homey.app, then restart the hub once and wait for it to reconnect.
Still not working?
Contact the person who manages the home's network first, if it is not you, or the support route for your device brand. For a platform-wide problem, contact Homey support through the help option in the app or on the Homey website. Have your device model, the hub name, the app version, the exact error text, and the time with your time zone. Never send your Wi-Fi password, account passwords or device codes in a support message. Live incident updates are on status.homey.app.
Most smart-home problems come from a device connection, a hub setting or a Flow step, and they usually clear after a restart and a check of the connection. The status page shows live incidents, so you can see whether the problem is on Homey's side.
