Overview: A legacy SPA hardened with modern bot protection, reflecting its security-first payment industry focus.

What stands out

  • AngularJS is end-of-life, suggesting the frontend may be due for modernization despite the business's security focus.
  • The use of Cloudflare Turnstile over traditional CAPTCHA reflects a preference for seamless UX in a B2B payment context.

Technologies cybersource.com uses

  • AngularJS — Legacy JavaScript framework for the single-page admin interface, chosen when the site was first built, now a maintenance cost.
  • Cloudflare — CDN and edge security for global reach, protecting the payment portal from DDoS attacks.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — Adds invisible CAPTCHA bot detection to payment forms, aligning with Cybersource's fraud prevention brand.

How these technologies work together

  • Cloudflare runs on Cloudflare Turnstile — Turnstile runs on Cloudflare's edge network, sharing the same infrastructure and threat intelligence as the CDN.
  • AngularJS integrates with Cloudflare Turnstile — Turnstile widget is embedded in AngularJS-driven forms to filter bots without disrupting the SPA user experience.

How to fix Cybersource not working

Cybersource is a payment platform, so a fault can stop checkouts and refunds for your customers. Most issues come from one of four places: the merchant portal you sign in to, the payment API your site or app calls, the test environment, or the Cybersource platform itself. Find your symptom below. Each list starts with the quickest check.

Jump to what you are seeing

Payment Processing

Payments are declined, time out or do not complete. A decline is often a bank or card decision rather than a fault, so check the reason code first.

  1. Look at the decision and reason code returned with the transaction. A decline with a clear reason code is a payment decision, not a platform fault.
  2. Check whether failures happen for every card type or only one, and in every region or only one. A pattern usually points to a card type or a route.
  3. Check that amounts, currency and billing details are valid. A field the gateway rejects stops the payment.
  4. If many payments time out at once, check status.cybersource.com for an incident before changing your integration.

API Down

Calls to the payment API fail, time out or return server errors.

  1. Check the status code. A 401 or 403 means the credentials or signing details are wrong, a 429 means too many calls, and a 5xx means a platform-side problem.
  2. Check that the merchant ID and keys in your configuration match the environment you are calling.
  3. Retry with a growing delay, and only retry requests you know did not complete, so a customer is not charged twice.
  4. Check status.cybersource.com if several calls fail together.

Website Down

The Cybersource website or merchant pages do not load. Your integration may still take payments while the website is down, so check that separately.

  1. Try a private window and another network. If it only fails on your network, a proxy or firewall is the cause.
  2. Check status.cybersource.com for an incident.
  3. To find out whether payments still work, check a test transaction through your integration.

Login Failed

Sign-in to the merchant portal is refused. Portal users have roles, so access can be removed without the password changing.

  1. If the message says the credentials are wrong, reset your password and check spam for the email.
  2. Check which environment you sign in to. Test and live environments can use different logins, so make sure you use the one you intend.
  3. Ask your account administrator to confirm your user role still allows access.
  4. If several users fail at the same time, check the status page before resetting passwords.

Virtual Terminal Error

The Virtual Terminal, where your staff take payments by hand in the portal, shows an error or will not take a payment.

  1. Reload the terminal and try a private window, since an old session often causes a failure.
  2. Check that the card details are complete and that the amount and currency are what you expect.
  3. Check that your user role allows payments through the Virtual Terminal.
  4. If a card fails here but works through your integration, note both results and send them to support.

Reports Not Loading

A transaction or reconciliation report does not load or times out. Wide date ranges and many filters are the usual reason.

  1. Narrow the date range and try again, then widen it step by step.
  2. Remove filters you do not need, since a wide filter can time out.
  3. Run the report at a quieter time of day.
  4. If a report keeps failing, note its name and date range and send them to support.

Sandbox Down

The test environment does not respond or returns errors. Your live setup is separate, so check which one is affected.

  1. Check status.cybersource.com for a test environment incident.
  2. Confirm you are calling the test address with the test credentials, not the live ones.
  3. Retry later. While the test environment is down, do not change your live setup to match it.

Decision Manager Issue

Fraud rules or review decisions in Decision Manager do not behave as expected, for example orders are held that should be approved, or a rule does not trigger.

  1. Check the review queue for the order and the rule or score that flagged it. The reason shown there tells you whether it is your rule or a platform issue.
  2. Check that your rule changes were saved and are active for the right merchant account.
  3. If a rule that should trigger does not, compare its conditions with the order data. A missing field can stop a rule from matching.
  4. If the queue or scores themselves do not load, check the status page, then contact support.

Still not working?

If it still does not work, contact Cybersource support through the support option in your merchant portal or on cybersource.com, or through your payment provider's support team if you use one. Have your merchant ID, the transaction or request ID, the exact error and reason code, the environment (test or live) and the time it happened with your time zone. Live incident updates are on status.cybersource.com.

Most payment problems come from one card, one setting or one declined transaction, and they often clear once that one piece is corrected. Platform incidents are posted on the status page as they happen, so you can see when things are back.
