How to fix Cognite Service not working
Cognite provides an industrial data platform, Cognite Data Fusion, that connects operational and engineering data, sensors and 3D models in asset-heavy industries. Engineers and data teams use it to find information and improve operations. Find your symptom below. Most problems come from a sign-in, a connector or data feed, a large data load, or the platform itself. Check the status page before you change a data feed that operations depend on.

- Login Failed
- API Error
- Data Ingestion Failed
- Slow Performance
- 3D Viewer Error
- Connector Issues
Platform Down
The platform does not load, or it shows errors for your project.
- Reload in a private window, and check you are in the right project and tenant.
- Check status.cognite.com for an incident.
- If other users are also affected, send the project name, the time and the error text to your administrator.
Login Failed
Sign-in is refused.
- If the message says the password is wrong, reset it through the official route and check spam.
- If your company uses an identity provider, sign in through that route.
- Try a private window to rule out an old session.
API Error
Calls to the Cognite API fail or return an error.
- Check the status code. An access error usually means the client ID or secret is wrong, too many calls means you should slow down, and a server error means a service-side problem.
- Confirm the credentials are current and have access to the project.
- Retry with a growing delay, and check status.cognite.com if several calls fail together.
Data Ingestion Failed
Data from sensors or systems is not reaching the platform.
- Check the data source is sending, and that its connection and credentials are active.
- Read the ingestion error, which usually names the resource or field that was rejected.
- Check status.cognite.com, then send one small test batch before a full load.
Slow Performance
Searches, 3D views or data queries are slow.
- Narrow the search or the data range you are working with.
- Try again at a quieter time, since large loads can slow a shared project.
- Check status.cognite.com, and report the page and the time if it stays slow.
3D Viewer Error
The 3D model does not load, or it shows errors.
- Check your graphics driver is current, and that your browser supports WebGL.
- Reload the model, and try a smaller part of it.
- Check status.cognite.com, and report the model name and the time if it stays broken.
Connector Issues
A connector to a source system stops working.
- Check the connector's login has not expired, and that the source system is reachable.
- Check the connector's mapping has not changed recently.
- Check status.cognite.com, then run the connector once for one small item before a full run.
Still not working?
Contact your organisation's Cognite administrator or your project owner first, since they manage projects, connectors and access. For a platform-wide problem, contact Cognite support through the help option in the platform or on its website. Have your project name, the source or connector name, the exact error text, and the time with your time zone. Never send client keys, secrets or confidential plant data in a support message. Live incident updates are on status.cognite.com.
Most industrial-data problems come from a connector login, a source setting or a large data load, and they usually clear once that is checked. The status page shows live incidents, so you can see whether the problem is on Cognite's side.
