How to fix Cartesia not working
Cartesia builds real-time voice models and an API for speech generation, speech-to-text and voice agents. Developers and product teams use it. Find your symptom below. Only use voices and audio you have the right to use, and do not put audio, voice samples or API keys in a support message.
Jump to what you are seeing
Website Down
The Cartesia website or dashboard does not load for you.
- Open the page in a private window and on another network.
- Check status.cartesia.ai for an active incident.
- If only your network is affected, ask IT to check the firewall.
API Down
Calls to the Cartesia API fail or time out.
- Check the status code. A 401 means the API key is missing or wrong, a 403 means it lacks permission, a 429 means too many requests, and a 5xx means a platform-side problem.
- Confirm the key has not been revoked, and that it is set in the environment your code reads.
- Retry with a growing delay, and check status.cartesia.ai if several calls fail together.
Audio Generation Failed
Speech does not generate, or the output is empty or cut short.
- Check the text is not empty and is in a language the voice supports.
- Split a very long text into shorter parts and generate each one.
- Check your usage limit, since a used-up limit can stop generation.
Login Failed
Sign-in to the dashboard is refused.
- If the message says the password is wrong, reset it and check spam.
- Check you are signing in to the account your team uses.
- Try a private window to rule out an old session.
High Latency
Audio takes longer than expected to start, which makes a voice agent feel slow.
- Check your connection between your server and the Cartesia API. Distance and network path add delay.
- Check status.cartesia.ai for a latency incident.
- Keep a single connection open for a conversation rather than opening a new one for each turn, if your setup allows.
Playground Error
The playground in the dashboard does not generate, or it shows an error.
- Reload in a private window with extensions turned off.
- Check the voice and model you selected are available to your account.
- Try a short sentence to check the playground works at all.
Still not working?
If it still does not work, contact Cartesia support through the help option in the dashboard or on the Cartesia website. Have your account name, the request ID shown in the response, the exact error text and status code, and the time it started with your time zone. Never send API keys, voice samples or customer audio in a support message. Live incident updates are on status.cartesia.ai.
Most voice-generation problems come from a usage limit, a text detail or a connection delay, and they usually clear once that is checked. The status page shows live platform incidents, so you can see whether the problem is on Cartesia's side.
